Obsessive Compulsive Foundation Conference 2005 in San Diego
We were fortunate to have the Annual Obsessive Compulsive Foundation
Conference in San Diego last year.
The conference is a great event where both the public and mental
health professionals can come together to learn about OCD and make
new friends and connections.
I'd like to share some conference highlights with you, and perhaps
inspire you to attend the
conference in Atlanta
in July. I invite
you to listen to this short audio and read comments from a mother
and daughter that attended.
Comments from a
family that attended
"I attended the OCD conference in San Diego and from an
adolescent's viewpoint, I highly suggest my fellow peers to go!
It's a great place to make new friends and I
discovered I am not alone in these struggles of OCD and growing up
combined. Others can relate and you hear encouraging stories of
people who have conquered their OCD enough so that they can easily
control it.
It is also a great place to learn more about
OCD and techniques to master it. However, if you are not an adult,
you will want to go to seminars geared for teens or children,
otherwise you may find some seminars plain boring! Overall, it was
a great experience." (—Teen with OCD)
"I highly recommend attending the OCD conference. Being a family
member of someone with OCD, I struggled with how to best help
them. After attending the many helpful seminars, I feel I am
better equipped to do that.
I met other family members during support
groups and was able to connect with them. It was beneficial to
share feelings of helplessness with others who understood. Also,
learning about the latest research on OCD was interesting and
helpful.
I will attend again and encourage others to
go." (—Mother of child with OCD)
